Having 5 or more sunburns can double your risk for melanoma, the most serious kind of skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common kind of cancer in the United States, and 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the time they are 70. However, when it is detected early, it has a very high survival rate. Check your skin once a month for any spots that look suspicious, and see your doctor if you have any doubts.
